When PCI Express met M-PHY

Intel의 주도로 PC와 server에 필수적으로 쓰이는 I/O 인터페이스인 PCI Express가 앞으로 스마트폰에도 I/O 표준으로 채택되어 운영된다. PCI Express 표준을 주관하는 PCI-SIG(PCI Special Interest Group)는 MIPI(Mobile Industry Processor Interface) Alliance에서 표준으로 정한 M-PHY를 physical layer로 채택하여 PCI-Express 프로토콜이 M-PHY상에서적용될 수 있도록 새 표준의 제정을 추진중이다.

PCI Express와 MIPI M-PHY가 결합함으로서 모바일 시스템과 임베디드 시스템들은 이미 검증된 프로토콜/프로그래밍 모델과 mobile 디바이스용으로 디자인된 저전력 PHY를 이용하여 스템 내외부의 I/O에서 효과적이고 안정적인 high-speed 테이터 전송을 구현하는데 더욱 용이해 졌다.
